Description

Egg shaped salt cellar or pepper shaker. Also a 2nd salt cellar or pepper shaker probably modeled after a "lighthouse" design. Purchased at a yard sale thinking items were silver. Both items are stamped "German Silver," which I now understand is not truely silver. I am unsure of the origin of either item. A friend researched and found similar items labeled as antique salt cellars or antique salt & pepper shakers.

As both German silver items were purchased at a yard sale I do not have any history on eithrer. One is tall and has numerous designs. The 2nd is a small egg shaped container that has intricate designs  all over it.Both are stamped german silver on the bottom.

Category Silver and Silver Overlay
Medium German Silver
Distinguishing marks German Silver stamped on the bottom. The egg shaped one has 4's that appear to be markers to line up the egg to close it
Condition Good
Date Period This type of item was popular around the early 1900's when salt was a rare commodity causing vesels to be status symbols- fancy or pricey.
