German Tea Set

By taximadman, 15 October, 2014
Description

When my grandmother (father's mother) passed away a few years ago, I inherited her sister Peg Earps tea set which was given to her from my grandmother as a wedding gift on 07/02/1928 when Peg Soulsby married Robert Earp (relative of Wyatt Earp).  My great aunt Peg Earp, was a local Wenona, Ill artist, & I'm told she was known in that erea for her art.

Tea set is in very good condition, and is complete/no missing pieces, & which are a teapot w/lid, a sugar bowl w/lid, & creamer pitcher.  It is a lovely pale/muted turquoise/teal color with a gourgous pearl-ish looking finish swirling over it.  Small ball-grip on lids, as well as the handles are a darker blue color.  I'm no photographer & my pics of tea set do NOT do it justice, for sure.

On the bottom of all pieces, there is a S, or maybe a 5 MARK  enclosed in peaked box (see pic).  Also on bottom of all pieces is the country "Germany", & the number "49".

Since I posted this, I was at my father's home, & discovered a canvas oil painting named "TEA TIME" painted in January, 1964 done by my great aunt, Peg Earp.  I was hit with the immediate realization that the star of this painting was my teapot, the same teapot from tea set she'd gotton as wedding gift from her sister (my grandmother) back in 1928.  When I saw this painting, the only thing I told my dad was, 'my teapot is in this painting."  To which he replied, 'in that case, painting should be yours too".  The 3 pictures of the painting just show the same teapot in it as in my tea set pics.

UPDATED INFO

Ok, just found out this german tea set was wedding gift to my great aunt Peg (Soulsby) Earp, to Robert Earp on their wedding day 07/028/1928.  New photos show oil painting  which includes teapot only from  this tea set for model of subject matter.   Peg Earp painted this in January, 1964 (I was born in April, 1964).

Also, Robert Earp is relative to the well-known Wyatt Earp.

I've also noticed additional markings on bottoms of pieces (along with those prev. mentioned) the numbers 1941, & below that the number 6 marked/stamped into into white  bottoms of pieces of teaset.  These are slightly raised on surface (no color).  Also has on bottoms: in a glittery light green color (stamped, rather than hand wrote) the word GERMANY and the number 49.  Shielded letter S mark looks to be hand painted on, in darker green.

I don't know if any of this changes anything.  I am excited about the whole thing regardless - having artwork done by great aunt as well as some of the objects she used for subject matter in these paintings!  I can't tell you how in awe of it all.  I feel as though I'm learning about my family's history; & their story.  If anyone has any info of any kind to aid me in my quest, I'd be so greatful.

Re: German Tea Set

I now have additional artwork done by Peg Earp.  Oil painted portrait is of Pegs mother, and is done from a photo she had of her mother.

I'm still very interested in finding out any thing I can about my great-aunt Peg Earp.
