I had one that seems similar and I was a gold coin called a quarter eagle.  In the old west they had double eagles which I believe were about $20.00 then.  Hope this helps.

Prices vary on eBay a bit... graded and slabbed (in a holder) for $139 - $299 or better.
yours looks genuine and on the high end. But there is no way to really grade it accurately without seeing it.

Genuine Cal Gold 1843 pieces today catalog anywhere from $150 US dollars to several $1000s of US dollars, depending on specific pattern and condition.
