I agree, it looks old. I'd check it thoroughly with a lens, for maker marks and stamps. (they are often well hidden, so take your time!)

You would be wise to take it to a jeweler, preferably one who deals in antiques, to have it appraised. They can tell you the gold content, etc. that one can't get by a photograph.
You should be asking for 'insurance' value, which is slightly higher than retail value. That's because the cost of actually FINDING a replacement is included in the price.
Also, try and find out as much as you can regarding the ownership of the piece. Old bills, talk to relatives, etc. then WRITE IT DOWN and keep it with the piece. Your kids will thank you!!!
