Description
This cane is 35 inches overall. The handle is some kind of animal tooth or tusk. The shaft is wood of some sort with pronounced knots and pleasing vaining. The handle is connected to the shaft with what appears to be a stainless steel wire turkshead. It's in very good conditions and to me it seems to be very unique. It is most likely English since that's where he lived most of his life but he did sail the world.

Thanks for the input. I think that it has to be older than Mid 20th C because my dad was born in 1908 and it was his dad that gave it to him as at least his fathers. I hadn't thought about the wire being silver rather than stainless. I know that it's not carbon steel. I'm not hot to sell it but I appreciate your help.

Looks to be an old large wild boar tusk handle attached to a nice hardwood base by a woven coin silver collar. Quite desire able to some. The rubber stopper on the bottom was added later and it should most likely come off, don't force it if firmly attached. I do not know the extent that affects the value. A nice original cane in this style generally brings $200-400 at auction.

I think that time-frame is likely close to what i'd think was practical given the background I know. You're right about the rubber tip. My dad put that on it when he had to use it toward the end of his life. It could come off without any risk or effort.. The price range that you suggest seems very reasonable and in the area that I'd have expected but I've never shown it to anyone.
