Gunlocke Morris Chair

By LeisureMan, 25 August, 2022
Description

Oak morris chair made by W. H. Gunlocke Chair Co. of Wayland, NY. Original tag on the underside, with No 473 faintly visible, and numbers which look to be "473" written in white chalk on the underside. The seat has original burlap and fabric covering the springs. Cushions are original stuffing (horse hair, perhaps?). I purchased the chair in an antique store in Portsmouth, NH circa 1985, and the original leather covers for the cushions were completely disintegrating, so I had them recovered in new leather of similar color. The metal adjustment bar still works in its brackets. The chair shows some scuffing and wear but is solid. There may have been wheels on it at one time, but they are gone. There is some deterioration to the finish on the left arm top, but the damage does not extend into the wood. All the wood looks to be oak. Adult size chair.
