Long Description
Hand carved pedestal with 3 ball-and-claw feet.
Top of table is also hand carved around the edge and across the entire face of the top. Glass top protects the top carvings. In our research we have found a very similar piece with the same base (3 claw feet), but as a "Hunters table" (I believe I found it on mrbeasleys.com).
please see the background information for explanation of this piece being custom.
Appears to have been painted long ago,
possibly when converted to a coffee table.
The top has a seam where two pieces are joined.
There is also a mark on the bottom surface where something was once attached. Perhaps a locking mechanism for a table leaf?
Any additional insight and appraisal would be greatly appreciated.
History
I purchased this item at a multi estate auction for $5.00. A family member of the owner told us that this coffee table was custom made and used to be a "bigger table". She noted it was a very expensive piece.
