Handpainted Solid Wood Signed Antique Chair

By lavendar888, 2 November, 2009
Description

I like this chair for the handpainted nature, age and seeming uniqueness. It seems to be very old. All wood and a thick wood seat. The rounded, poles of the back of the chair and the legs of the chair are very thinly ridged. The wood is not smooth on these parts, very small horizontal ridges all the way around the poles on these parts (like a fine tooth comb look,if that makes sense). Hard to see until you are very close up or feeling this part. This chair has wear, but nothing is broken and one is able to confidentally sit on the chair. I cannot make out the total "signature" or handwritten words on the bottom. This item being located in York County PA, I do know that the bottom word is "York". The top seems to be a capital Hm E? Or Wm E? Then Den.something.s? All in "Fancy" Cursive which seems to be a very "old" cursive style. Not sure. Please help. I would love to know the approximate age, history and worth and whether to sell this at auction, consignment, ebay or craigslist. Thank you for your help!
