I have racked my brain spent countless hours trying to find out what this is and what it is worth please help

I can't much from the images, some things really need a physical appraisal to determine what you have, such is the case here. I suggest taking it to a local Roadshow appraisal type of event or a local auctioneer to get a referral to someone qualified to to examine it.
