Help with identification of dish

Description I have bought a lovely sugar? butter? or jam? dish. The dish is porcelain with cobalt blue, gold trims and orange flowers. It sits in a silver coloured basket and has a lid. No marks on basket or lid and they look newer than the dish does - perhaps made for it later?. The dish is marked underneath and after much searching on internet cannot find a similar mark. I know it has a registration diamond with I think IV at the top. Rest is unreadable. It has the number 2540 handwritten in orange. I woud really appreciate your help in identifying the maker or year it was made and even what it was really used for. Regards Sandra

I'll have to look up the monogram mark, but it is from the UK and dates no later than 1883, the last year the diamond registry mark was used.

Hi there Thank you very much for your reply. I have spent some time searching for more information on the monogram mark but have been unable to locate anything similar. If you are able to shed any more light on the mark it would be much appreciated. I will continue to search this forum as well as other sites. Thank you
