Description

I picked it up at a yard sale in Northwest PA because I loved the look and the mechanics of the piece.  The manufacturer label found on the underneath part of the leaf is in bad shape and not legible other than Imperial Furniture Company.  I'm not sure how old it is, 40's maybe?  I would like to lightly sand and varnish the piece to bring it back to life but don't want to detract from the value in doing so.  Does appear to be mahoganey which is true to Imperial.  What can you tell me about it, and if I am to sell it as-is what is the value versus if i fixed it up?

This is the best info that I could find.  This person/co. definitely changed the original appearance and has it listed for $750.  Is this a fair assessment? Is the table an antique?  Should it not be modified?  Is lightly sanding and staining mine a dark walnut going to be "okay"?
