I have seen something like this on Pawn Stars and they said it's a god or goddess from the Orient and it could be bronze. If it were mine I would have it appraised, it could be worth something.

I looked up this statue on www.asiasocietymuseum.org. There is a background on how the Chola Period era came to power in the late 9th century. Hope that would be a great start in your research to this magnificent piece you have. I also typed in Google - bronze antiques from india. You could compare your statue to the images that it has on there.
