Description Owned by grandmother for 50 years, owned by great grandmother for 20-30 years prior to that. Made in Japan. Bought at an Auction in Cape Town, South Africa. Excellent condition, no scratches, cracks or chips whatsoever. Scuff marks on underside only. Made of thick porcelain.

Items with country of origin marks such as "Made in Japan" generally postdate the mid 1920's. Japan marked their export pieces " Nippon" from 1891-1921. "Made in Japan" pieces generally date from the late 1920's through to World War Two. This example is a Japanese copy of Chinese Export "Famille Noir" porcelain comparable examples sell at auction for under $150.00. Lovejoy
