Vintage Bassett Mirror Company - 9 Panel Mirror

Hi! I'm trying to figure out how much to ask for this mirror. It does have some chips on edges, but I can't find anything on it! I purchased this brand new over 20 years ago around 2001. It very heavy & large, approx 56" x 32 1/2". There's are two numbers on it one is 6310-414 and other is 6076-190. Any suggestions or advice on how I can get this information would be greatly appreciated :)

Description:

This is a large, vintage 9-panel mirror manufactured by Bassett Mirror Company. It measures approximately 56 inches wide by 32.5 inches high and is very heavy. The mirror has some chipping along the edges, with the most noticeable damage on the bottom panels. It was originally purchased brand new around 2001.

The back of the mirror includes product numbers "6310-414" and "6076-190", along with instructions for mounting. The label advises against using wire for hanging and suggests using two wall anchors or screws for installation

History:

  • Bassett Mirror Company has been a known manufacturer of home furnishings, particularly mirrors and decor, for many decades.
  • Their mid-century and vintage-style mirrors have gained popularity due to their quality craftsmanship and stylish designs.
  • Mirrors from Bassett’s vintage collections (especially oversized or decorative styles) are often sought after in the resale market, particularly among interior decorators and collectors.

Condition:

  • Overall condition: Good
  • Issues:
    • Several chips along the edges, most significant at the bottom corners.
    • No visible cracks or missing panels, which is important for value retention.
    • The backing and frame appear intact and stable.

Current Market Value:

  • Similar large vintage Bassett mirrors from the late 20th century to early 2000s have sold for $200 to $600 in the secondary market, depending on condition, location, and demand.
  • Comparable listings:
    • Mid-century modern Bassett mirrors (large, paneled): $300–$700.
    • 1980s–2000s large-scale wall mirrors: $200–$500.
    • Mirrors with noticeable chipping or damage tend to sell for $100–$250.
  • Since your mirror has visible chips, particularly at the bottom, this could lower its resale value to around $150–$300, depending on how noticeable the damage is in person.

Recommendations for Sale:

  • If selling online: Consider listing it on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, eBay (local pickup), or Craigslist, with a price range of $200–$350, while noting the imperfections.
  • If selling locally: Home decor consignment shops or vintage furniture dealers may be interested in purchasing it, though they may offer less than $200 due to the condition.
  • If restoring: If you can repair or minimize the appearance of chips, the value could increase to $300+, especially if marketed as a vintage decorative mirror.

Recommendation for Professional Appraisal:

A professional appraisal is not strictly necessary for this piece unless:

  • You believe it is part of a rare collection or limited-edition run.
  • You want insurance valuation if storing or shipping it.
  • You suspect it may have an earlier production date (pre-1980s mirrors tend to command higher prices).

A furniture or home decor appraiser could provide a more precise valuation, particularly if you plan to sell it at a specialty vintage store.
