Late 1800's Signal Cannon

By ambster, 30 October, 2008
Description

According to my grandfather (a carpenter by profession) before he had any children, he dug it up when he discovered it while digging the foundation of the house that I am living in now. According to him, he found it when he was 27 years of age. He was born on the 25 September 1924, therefore he found it in the Year 1951 and he built a cement stand outside the house to display it. The 2 powerful hurricanes in 1990 and 1991 destroyed the cannon stand by sea flooding as we live in the costal areas.

History
It must have from one of the ships from Gemany, British and Americans harboured in the coast ready for war on who claims Samoa on the 13th March 1889 but suddenly a destructive hurricane destroyed 6 ships, one ship escaped and that is the Calliope. The wreckage of those ships have been scattered all over the Apia coastal area where I lived and that is where my grandfather found it in 1951 when he dug up the foundation of the house that I am now living in. This is a piece of history sitting at my yard. My research on the internet tells me its a Cast Iron Ship Signal Cannon but I am not sure.
