Cobalt blue bubble glass wine(?) bottle in the shape of a praying nun. Contacted the blue nun winery in Germany and they stated that they were unsure of its time line but believed it was a Blue Nun wine bottle and that it was very old. Here is what they wrote:
Dear Mrs. White,
thank you very much for approaching us on the question about the history of the nun-shaped-bottle of your friend.
We assume that it is a promotion item that the previous makers of the famous Blue Nun wine have created to celebrate a good vintage or some good sales achievement. The exact reasoning for creating this bottle regrettably we cannot give, as we have only taken over the responsibility for the Blue Nun brand in 1995 – and obviously this bottle dates much further back.
In any case it is for sure a quite rare subject in the world of wine bottles and in Blue Nun’s long history (the brand was founded in 1921).
We can assure that the fresh and crisp Blue Nun white wine is still around and will continue to be for many more years.
Thank you once again for approaching us and
best regards from Germany.
