Description
Geisha girl is not painted, it's the lithophane. It is the face of an oriental woman seemingly impressed in the bottom of tea cups. I believe we have the "sad geisha cameo". It is not dated and has no markings, which could point at those made in GI Trade within Japan why US Customs "country of origin" rules would not apply, or so I found on line. Most of this porcelain appears to have been made by the Kutani factory in Japan.
Re: Lithophane Tea Service
Sets like these sometimes came with paper or foil labels, which when removed makes them appear to date earlier than they are. The vast majority of these sets post date the 1930's. Values for these unmarked sets are modest,( under $150.00 at auction) they were made in huge numbers right up to the 1960's.
