Lobis Alpine Landscape Oil Painting

By Just Jess, 7 September, 2011
Description

This painting was left on the wall of a bedroom in a house I purchased in 1985. About 1990 I had the glass removed as I personally don't like a glass covered oil paintings. I've always liked the painting but largely ignored it until a friend started painting and I bought one of her paintings which was of course signed at which point it occurred to me to wonder if I could find out anything about the alpine landscape painting and the artist Lobis whose signature is in the bottom right hand corner. The internet mentions an artist Lobis who died in 1905 and who painted alpine landscapes so I wonder if my painting could be an original Lobis and if so, what its value might be.

Re: Lobis Alpine Landscape Oil Painting

Paintings really are in the realm of the experts, even then there is no information available. some artists are simply "Unknowns", painters who loved the craft , but never really caught the publics attention , or maybe never really wanted to be in the limelight. That said here's an auction record to a painting similar to yours:
