Description
The collection was used extensively in the 1880's by my grandfather , and therefore received some wear as evident in the photo. The glass marbles or "taws" were hand made by an unknown toy maker. The "marble" marbles were used like Jacks ,and are the reason that Marbles are so named today.
Re: Marble collection
What you have is the back 10 marbles known as German Swirls because they were made in Germany and imported , which is as per usual . They are latticinio and divided core from what i can see .....the ones in front look like 2 benningtons and the others are difficult to tell as i need to feel them and look for fold lines .They are interesting . German Swirls if 5/8th inches in size can run up to $25.00 each for a mint example and a few $'s for a chipped example .
What do they measure from end to end ? Usually a Caliper is needed to get the proper size , but hold a ruler on top and look down at them ...what does it look like they measure ?
Re: Marble collection
i agree they look a little bit dinged and scuffed scuffed up and may only bring 10-15 each in my opion if any are over 1 inch you can double the price almost. the 6 brighter colored one will probably bring about 5-8$ dollars more. (the ones with the lot of green and red in them. nice colors on those. the banged up on on the far left may only bring about 8-10$ . it is hard ti jusge the conditionof these not holding them.. so i am making a little bit of a guess as to the condition which could affect the value a lot. if any had a red laticino swirl in the middle they are worth 10 times that. and the small polished agate one might bring 2-3$ each
