Marble topped occasional table

Description

Ornate metal (brass?) tripod table with marble galleried circular top. 54cm high, top 33cm in circumference.Handle in the centre of the top.The piece weighs approximately 7kg. I bought it years ago because it looked so strange, and have always assumed that it's a copy - but of what?

Bought c1998 in Perth Western Australia from general dealer.Origin not known.I assume it is a copy as it was not expensive and I can find no maker's mark.I would love to know the original purpose / period of this as I have rarely seen anything similar in catalogues, and never seen one with a handle!
