Description

This is a Maritime Hourglass, Wooden base with National Maritime Historical Society, The Maritime Hourglass, wrote on it. Ingraved Compass on top and bottom of hourglass and brass zodiac pictures detailed onto the glass.

This appears to be a reproduction / presentation /gift piece. Many groups will create such pieces to commemorate an event or major work. If it is actually presented, it should have a plaque or some such saying so. If it is a generic piece, it is usually put out for it's members to buy and often states that as well, but sometimes not. Typically in that case, it is sold to members at a convention or some such. If it is a higher end souvenir for sale, it normally only has the group name.

I suspect that it is a high end souvenir from the wording you say is on it.

I'd approach the group (http://www.seahistory.org/html/home.htm) and ask them if they can identify it. They apparently have offices around the world, so they may have to ask around as to which one produced it.
