Hi, This is one of several beautiful sculptures by an artist named J. Martin Holmes. I thank you in advance for taking a moment to look at the piece. Mr. Holmes passed away in, I believe 2011. His works are being sold at an estate sale this weekend. I and my brother will be purchasing the lot. I am seeking assistance in identifying the artist and getting an honest opinion of the viability of his work as an investment. I am including several photos of each piece. I apologize for the setting and quality of lighting. I was forced to take the photos in the garage at the artists home. Unfortunately, I know little about Mr. Holmes. Internet searches yielded almost no useful information, save the following reference to the sale of one of his bronze sculptures: http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/more-furniture-collectibles/sculptures… I would appreciate your opinion. I'm hoping that the craftsmanship of these works might have some appeal to collectors. Any advice you may offer would be much appreciated. Thank you, Jim
Re: Martin Holmes Sculptures
Hi Jim,
Did you end up buying the sculptures? They were in Encino right? Martin Holmes was my grandfather. I found your posting by searching for his name on a whim. He was a talended painter, sculpture and poet. If you're still interested in learning about him, let me know.
