Description Edison S19 Disc Phonograph, serial #122876, that is still in its shipping crate. This mahogany finish upright disc phonograph has been in stock in a family music store (now inactive) that dates to 1886. The Diamond Disc models were manufactured from 1912 to 1927, and they play the thick, black Edison disc records with a permanent diamond stylus reproducer that does not need to be changed. This tall vertical wind-up machine has a lift up lid, an internal horn, gold plated arm, reproducer, etc., and disc storage at the bottom below decorative fretwork that covers the grill cloth. It is impossible to see what the condition of the phonograph is while it's still crated, but it obviously is all original. There is a heavy duty cage-like structure built around it from lumber under the thinner outside boards to protect it in shipping.

With items such as this that are vintage pieces and in mint condition values can really only be determined by putting it in a specialist auction that would attract collectors of Phonographs.Any estimate otherwise would simply be a guess .

Lovejoy

How would you know if something else was in the box? If it is that old there could have been anything placed back in the crate and re-sealed. Would it hurt to open it? I am sure no one is going to buy a crate not knowing exactly what is in it. Cool find whatever it is.
