Re: oil painting Quite Stream Wyoming

No body can appraisal original artwork without examining it. That being said if your is an original OLAF MOLLER (Rupert, Idaho 1903-1987) , his work lists with presale estimates at auction in the $900.00- $1200.00 range.

Re: oil painting Quite Stream Wyoming

Hi Finefellow,

I don't think my first post went through. I'm new to this site. Synopsis of first posting - we have paintings by Olaf Moller that are VERY similar and signed in the same fashion. You have listed your provenance. My painting came into my hands via my grandfather to my mother to me. My grandfather owned a Ford dealership in Rupert, Idaho. Olaf was a friend of his, I'm was told, and traded the painting I have to my Granddad in partial exchange for a car.

Read below to find my observations about our paintings. I have been in touch with the Boise Art Museum.  They suggested I get it authenticated - so I'm going to try and find an appraiser locally or in San Francisco as I live in California.

I just sat down and compared our paintings side by side and the are NOT exactly the same. Clouds, hills, shrubs - looks like different time of year maybe. However, thye are both signed on the lower left and dated 34.

Another thing that is now eating at me is the signature. It looks like yours is similar. They are both done on the lower left hand corner, whereas the paingingts sold at auctions (and thus authenticated) have the signatures on the lower right hand corner and the signature is completely different than the one we have.

I love my painting, but now am wondering is Olaf did "seconds" that he traded to people for goods, etc.

Hope to hear back from you.

Sincerely,

Connie McKinley
