This is an old vase that appears to be made from tan clay. It has a white underglaze and has been hand decorated in a wide varitey of colored glazes and gold paint. In order to add texture and depth to the clothing the artist used some incising. It stands 9 1/2" tall, the base is 3 1/4" and the widest width is about 5 3/4". If you look inside you can see circular marks, indicating that it was made on a wheel. In the spots where the white glaze did not cover the clay, it appears to be tan. The top 2 1/4" appears to have been made separately and attached to the bottom part as there is a slight variation in the color of the white underglaze. There is a makers mark on the bottom. The condition is very good with some fading of the colors and loss of the gold paint in a few places. No cracks or chips present. The are a few dark spots that appear to be impurities in the white glaze. There is some soiling and shelf wear on the base that seem to be consistent with age.
