Description

Old gray earthenware (?) glazed  jug with a small handle attached to the lip at the opening at the top of the jug & to its shoulder. Very heavy. About 12" tall & 9" in diameter.

Some chips in the lip of the jug.

The bottom is unglazed & has no maker's mark I could find. No idea about its origin or age.

I bought the jug as a part of a lot of unrelated earthenware from a Northern California antique store that was closing.

Wow, cool! I just watched a video on how salt glazing was done. Amazing process.

So great to know more about this jug. Growing up in Western PA, I thought it looked similiar to the moonshine jugs I saw at "mountain folk" relatives' homes.

Thanks so much for info. What fun vocation!

Peace indeed!
