Trunks like this one are still in production, based on originals flat top trunks that appeared in the early 20th Century. The flat top allowed them to be stacked one on top of the other for transportation by train or steam ship, hence they became to be known as "Steamer Trunks". Ones in good condition often show up for sale at Charity shops around $50.00- 75.00 depending on condition.
