Re: original painting by anker signed and dated looks like ...

Hi! I haven't found the value of this painting, but this link might be a starting point for you:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anker_M%C3%A4dchen_H%C3%BChner_f…

Also, try typing "anker painting of boy and girl feeding chickens" in the search box of google, and click on "images" this may help...if I find anything else, I'll let you know...

Re: original painting by anker signed and dated looks like ...

I stumbled across your post while researching the same information on my art.  What you have there is a reprint of the 1865 painting by Albert Anker.  I believe the title is either "Girl Feeding Chickens" or "Chicken Yard".

I have this exact same reprint, down to the frame.  It's been in the family for about 40 years.  The backing paper is still on mine, and it shows it as being sold/made by Catalda Fine Arts in New York.  Title "Chicken Yard".  Print no. 5080.

As you can tell, mine isnt in too good of shape - but i did find a place that still sells reprints.  I place little value on mine other than sentilmental.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

You are quite correct, prints of this type were made in largew numbers and sold as decorator pieces. At auction comparables often sell for less than $50.00.

I'd suggest you try : artinfo dot com (it's free , but you must sign up for an 'account') .

I just looked under 'art prices' and found 1000+ entries for Anker listed in the results ( several painters of the era you mentioned named Anker ) .

Happy hunting , tamala !
