I just could not pass up this ornate teapot. The handle to the grape-leaf topper on the lid is broken and lost. The silver is oxidized. Otherwise in very good condition - no digs, dents, or structural marks. It has an inscribed name of Sarah on one side. I am trying to understand it's history better because of the odd markings. It appears the original makers mark was partially scratched out (Reed & Burton) then over-stamped with another (Redfield & Rice). Why would this be done? Also curious as I was searching for info on the net I ran across a genealogy of a Redfield line that included many Sarahs. Any leads or help on this would be greatly appreciated. I am not planning on keeping this item and will likely be listing it for sale at some point. FYI eBay currently has a very nice looking 1780 teapot (without the extra marks) available.
