I don't know a lot about this piece of metal. It has been in my husband's family for a very long time and I am unaware of the history of the piece. It is made very well and it still in excellent condition.
Based on your images this one appear to be a reproduction in the style of similar pieces made during the turn of the 19th century. It's very similar to examples by Kenton toys made during the 1930's. Most sell for under $150.00 at auction.
