Description The painting was in fair condition when I got it. There are a few scratches on it and the painting itself has seemed to have shrunk from the frame. The pigments of the paint have changed colors. Since it came away from the frame you can see a brighter blue in the upper left hand corner compared to the rest of the painting. It was apparently stapled to the frame and it seems the previous owners had removed it at one time because they decided to tape it back to the frame with duct tape.
Category Art Deco and Art Nouveau
Medium looks to be an oil painting
Distinguishing marks Paul Detlefsen P. and D. was probably red at one time but the color appears to be faded to tan
Condition Fair
Size and dimensions of this item 24" x 48"
Date Period 1899 to 1986
History Found in a cosignment shop. I noticed the Artist name in the corner and I looked it up on the internet and that is where i found the name of the painting itself.

Sorry to disappoint  you, but this is an inexpensive print of a Paul Detlefsen piece called "the big momemt". You can get better prints on E-bay for $20. I should know- I have a 1960 print that i'm trying to sell for $50.

This is a print called "the Big Moment" it is from a calender series Detlefsen did in the 1950's called "Horse and Buggy Days". The dad is teaching the son to drive across the creek. Detlefsen was said to have reflected on his own boyhood for inspration in his paintings.

As far as the worth of the print: It is in very poor condition judging from the photo. I would not pay more than $10 for it and I am a semental colector. Then I would spen about $100 having it cleaned and reframed. (I know a studio that does this and adds glass to the frame for me.) If you just want to get rid of it please donate it to Goodwill for others to invest in and enjoy or better yet you can have it cleaned and restored.
