Description

I inherited this lovely 8" plate from my mother-in-law.  I've been trying to find out more history about this plate because the subject matter is so unusual.

There is a mark on the back with a crown on top and under is a pretzel shaped rope. Under the crown are the letters "PR" and "Prize Medal", the date or number "1851" and title "Dancing." There is a non-colored stamp of an oval.  I can make out the #7 but I can't read the rest.

On the front is a scene of two African-Americans dancing, one playing an instrument and another behind him.

Someone did tell me they thought it might be circa 1862-1880 from the Petrus & Regout Co.

I'd love to know more about it.
