History Philip Dietrich purchased the PASSAU PORCELAIN FACTORY in Bavaria, Germany, in 1937 and then sold it in 1942 (it completely closed down several years later). The actual Factory was first established in 1840 and had several owners over the years. Dietrich purchased it from a company called "AELTESTE VOLKSTEDTER PORZELLANFABRIK" [means "Oldest Volkstedt Porcelain Factory"], but did not keep it for long. Many of the Molds he and previous owners used were already left behind by others, so many of their wares were usually re-issues of older designs, which makes them desirable.
