Description

This is a pair of Pompeia Bronze "Scotty Dog" (Scottish Terrier) bookends.

Each piece is signed POMPEIAN BRONZE on the back They are in great condition - with the original felt on the bottom, including the origina foil stickers of the Pompeian Bronze Company. They were produced in the early 1920's by the Pompeian Bronze Company.

Each piece measures about 6" x 2 3/8". The dogs stand about 5 1/2" tall from the tips of their ears to the bottom of the base.

One of the dogs has a 3/8" long scratch or hairline crack in the bronze cladding under the right eye (see photo). Otherwise, the pair are excellent with no other cracks, splits or loose cladding.

The pair weighs 4 lbs 6 oz.

From my research so far, I believe that the Pompeian Bronze Company begain as the Galvano Brozne Works Foundry of New York City. The name was changed to the Pompeian Bronze Company at the turn of the century when the company was sold to its employees. It remained in business as the Pompeian Bronze Company until 1922, when it was sold to the Marion Bronze Company.
