I don't know much about this item other than it was given to me by my grandmother when I was 16 I am now 51 years old. She aquired it from an elderly lady she took care of with instructions given to her not to ever sell it. My grandmother told me the same. What that says on the bottom is "Hand Painted" underneath that it says "Made in Japan".
