Re: Possible CHANEL gold brooch?

It is my impression that most vintage Channel jewelry was "costume jewelry"- ie. not made with precious materials- I could be wrong- as there may have been specially commissioned pieces.

Unfortunately, I might be able to tell better if the actual quality of the close-up image of the markings were better.

One thing to differentiate solid gold or silver jewelry from other types is the overall quality: how the stones are set, quality of the pin stem joint and catch, finish (including noticing where the plating may have worn off), etc. After looking at a lot of fine and costume jewelry and comparing the differences- you often get a sense of age, quality and materials and thus worth!
