Re: Pre-Columbian teapot

Pre-Columbian teapot?

I have a few questions on this tea pot. please note that in no way do I claim to be an expert on pre-columbian anything. but I do know what things should look like. Why is the spout burnt after it was broken? why is there a lip for a lid,but the handle seems to be molded in the way of the lid? Why is the bottom of the pot flat, and not round? (or show any ware?) why is pot so perfect in shape? Why does the hole look so perfect? (these pot shatter when broken hard enought to put a hole in it.) The crusty stuff on the out side of pot, should be chipping or pitting, not uniformed like this one.

With that said I do hope a expert finds this post and adds something for you.

If something looks to good to be real, it  might be fake.  Good luck......

you said you paid $35.00, who and where did you get it?

Re: Pre-Columbian teapot

Howdy Dowdy Mr. Phoenix ... ah, for the rest of your name ... First, let me thank you for getting back in touch with me. But as to the answers to your question, I really don't know what this teapot is. It just looked Mexican or Aztec or something old archeological. I got it at a flea market and really thought it was cool ... but have no clue what it really is. It could be something really new, made in China, although no such mark or label, and not be anything of significance at all. Soooooooooooo, I got on this site hoping someone could tell me. I am hoping to learn more about antiques and such and I guess I am making a beginner's mistake in trying to find things of importance and making booboos. What is your best guess what it is??? Let me know if you have any ideas. I really appreciate you taking the time and trouble so far. You take care now, sir. Have a great day. Again, Lucie

Re: Pre-Columbian teapot

(I am hoping to learn more about antiques and such) Lucie you are never making mistakes if you are taking the time to ask questions. when I am looking at something I question everything from the paint to the type of fastners... everything....you ask what I think it is. I think it is Chinese and made to look really old.. I'm suprized they only asked $35.00 or did you talk them down?.. Remember I am not saying what it is, just what I think.. I could very well be wrong.....Picking sometimes isn't finding, but more the hunt..

 Again Good Luck..

Re: Pre-Columbian teapot

Oh, my Goodness - You think it is Chinese. But you mean it's modern Chinese item, nothing old? Right? That's what you mean? So, I really have nothing interesting, huh? How long have you been collecting? Do you specialize in these kinds of items? And, oh, can you make a better guess other than an obvious fake of some kind??? I love this "treasure" hunting, even if I don't find real treasures. Again, thank you for your help, sir. You take care now. Lucie
