Princess Diana and Prince Charles comemorative wedding coffee cup

By mchambless101, 13 October, 2007
Description

This cup is quite mysterious. It is a white with gold color lining the lip of the cup and a small gold line around the very base of the cup. the handle is lovely and kind of shapely. On one side of the cup it has a picture of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. I'm not sure if it was a picture right after their wedding or not, but it appears as two separate pictures. The pictures have a small yellow design around them and outside of that there are daffodil flowers on the sides, roses at the bottom and at the top in the middle has a crown with three feathers out of the top of it. In the crown the letters CH and DIEN appear. On the other side of the cup it has a larger crown at the top and it is red and yellow without lettering. A cross sits at the top of this crown. Below the crown sits two crests. On the left it is a shield with a crown, and a smaller shield with lion looking things on it and there appears a harp (music harp) and it is surrounded by a blue ribbon or belt. this belt has the words HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. There are three notches in the belt and the highest one with a spike looking thing in it. The second crest is a shield it has 4 corners, 2 solid white and 2 red with some type of squares on it and then going from top left to bottom right a black stripe with 3 things that look like seashells (to me). In the middle below the crests there is a pair of wedding bells and then more roses. Inside the cup the top reads H.RH THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER 29 JULY 1981. Underneath the cup it reads "Fine Bone China" next line reads "CROWN" next line reads "estd 1801" and has a crown between the estd and 1801. Next line reads Staffordshire and then underneath that it reads ENGLAND. This is all written in what appears to be gold. I believe I have caught all the details as they are on the cup. I am working on putting pictures of the cup on this website.

Royal Commemoratives are

Royal Commemoratives are generally made in huge numbers prior to a special event regarding the Royals. The marriage of Chuck & Di was one of the biggest events in recent times and the output of these cups , along with a slew of other commemorative was truly immense. This means values are going to be very modest for these pieces for the forseeable future, right now it's hard to get a bid of $10.00 at auction for most of them.

Most of them were bone china

Most of them were bone china or porcelain, the pottery ones are now turning up in charity shops like the Sally Ann for less than $5.00.

Cup

I have a cup just like this one, and on the bottom it says "limited to 1000". I can't seem to find much information about it though.
