Value- refinished or not

Should I have this rocking chair stripped, repaired and refinished and recaned.  Is it worth anything if left alone and if so, will it make it worth less if it were repaired professionally?

Generally refinishing

Generally refinishing pressback chairs actually increases their value, but this one , because it commemorates the sinking of the Maine on February 15, 1898 I would leave in its present state. Pressbacks that celebrate an event generally sell for two to three times the amount of a regular "run of the mill" pressback.
