Description
This is a rope bed with a very interesting carving on the headboard. The carving is very organic looking--even sexual--and detailed. I believe that during the Victorian era, superstition led people to hang mandrake root over the headboaerd of the "marriage bed" to increase fertitlity. Does anyone know of fertility symbols being carved into headboards? I am very curious about the age and value of this piece. Any thoughts?
