serving platter monagrammed G

Description It belonged to my great great great uncle who was a famous Chicago Judge named Robert Gentzel. All his things were of the highest quality that is why I am wondering if this is Silver Plate or Sterling. I am also wondering its value. It is very plain with 2 handles. Thank you
