Description This is a set of 4 cute salt spoons, which I believe to be from 19th century Austria. A friend told me that the melt value for the spoons would be about $20, but I am not even considering melting the spoons as an option. I would like to know the value of these as collectors items and any history or information at all.
Category Silver and Silver Overlay
Medium silver
Distinguishing marks on back of each spoon is a clover shaped imprint containing a woman's head (Diana from research) on the left and another marking on the right which I can't identify, also there are initials that look like an "H" and an "S" with a crown on top at the bottom of each spoon.
Condition Excellent
Size and dimensions of this item About 4" in length
Date Period 1800's
History Found in a box of late grandmother's belongings, she was born in Hungary
Price Paid (If known) unknown

I think you are correct in keeping, not melting them down! A small set of 4 spoons of this vintage would be worth more than the melt value! I am not an expert in silver, but would suggest that you actually ask your question on a specialty site. One such that I am on is: http://www.ascasonline.org Marks are a field unto themselves, but your's do appear to me as non British silver marks of significant age. The crest & crown you show suggest either a military service for higher ranking officers or one from a 'noble' family. It's certainly worth finding out more! Good luck!

any Victorian Small Silver salt and teaspoons like this often sell for over $15.00 each. The mark on yours was used from 1867 on. From 1867 the silver fineness was indicated by a number beside "Diana head": 1=950/1000 - 2=900/1000 - 3=800/1000 -4=750/1000.The makers mark I can't make out. Lovejoy
