Sorry to tell you, but based on the images this piece is not Sevres, it's a fake, and a fairly recent one at that. Sevres used a date code within the interlocking L's mark, the letter "S" would be for 1771, the 1846 mark is fake as well. These have been cropping up on ebay with stories much like you've been told. They appear to have been made in China. Due to copyright and design protection laws no American or European company would attempt to fake a well known companies trademark.
