Description

Please help appraise this matching dining suit; purchased in 1975 from an antique store.

The wood is stamped "Sheraton" in several places on the back of the sideboard and server pieces; the chairs are unmarked. The table has a "B & S Tables Made in Boston" with last patent listed as 1910 tag on the center support bar under the leaves. The hand crank underneath the table is stamped "patented september 28, 1909."

The sideboard has a R.J. Horner plaque on the center back, under a set of tack holes that are of a slightly different spacing.

What would be a rough estimate appraisal for the suit? The chairs need re-upholstering, the table top needs refinishing, and several places the inlaid wood pieces need to be repaired (on the chairs).

The table currently extends from a 54" circle to 54"x84" when all 3 boards are placed. The table has 8 side chairs and room for a 4th leaf, but the 4th leaf is missing. If a 4th leaf were custom made, it would extend to 95". There are 2 arm chairs.

The sideboard measures 66"wide x 52" tall to top of mirror.

The server measures 42"wide x 38" tall.

I assume the wood to be mahogany???

Thank you for any comments and opinions on information regarding this set.

I am also open to suggestions on how to update / repurpose these pieces if repairs are going to be cost prohibitive.

Condition Good
Size and dimensions of this item table extends to 54" circle to 95" if all 4 boards are placed; however, only have 3 boards in possession. I may consider having the 4th custom made.
sideboard measures 66" wide x 52" tall x 22" deep.
server measures 42" wide x 38" tall x 21" deep.
Date Period 1909-1910?
History inherited the suit from my mother, who purchased in 1975 from an antique dealer.
She was told many years ago that if she spent $2000 refinishing and repairing "it", then "it" would be worth $8000. I do not know if "it" referred to the entire suit, or just the tables and chairs.
