Re: Singer sewing machine

The 201-2 you have was considered by many the best domestic/home use machine Singer ever built. It is gear driven (no belt) with the best balance and power and had a low amp motor as well. It sews quietly and powerfully. It will use needles from a size 9 upto 21. When in peak condition will sew even thick leather. I sew 7 layers of denim effortlessly.

I received my first as a gift from a close friend and when I sewed with it I fell in love. I now have at least 6 at all times.(plus the original one) I Dismantle and detail clean the entire machine. I rewire the pedal and motor and sometimes the light. I then sew with it when done and make adjustments to tension and timing as necessary. I then market and sell the restored machine.

These are labors of love and I don't make any real money but have the satisfaction that it will survive in the care of someone else who values these heirloom machines.

Range of values for the machine range from about $200 TO $400 currently. Cabinets are a different story. There were several different cabinets used by Singer but they haven't faired as well. They suffered from moisture and delamination of the Veneer woods. Mostly oak, some pecan, and mahogany. I generally sell without the cabinet. For my own use i have refinished a few cabinets and use them as end tables with a protective table cloth.

I hope you value and use your machine.  Denny
