Description

I found this outside when I was metal detecting and it looks odd like it may been a part of a meteorite or something that fell from the sky. It doesn't stick to a magnet it's not silver or gold then what is it? It pretty heavy and weighs 55.4 grams and there is no way of bending it. it is hard as a rock.  Email me at [email protected]. I found it a long time ago and I need to know what it is and I don't know what else to do or how to find out what metal it is. I know it is kind of weird but It doesn't smell like nothing and it doesn't stink or anything like copper or brass would, so I need more information!

Some coin dealers have meters that tell the composition of metals...80% lead 20% nickel..etc. The equiqment is expensive so you may want to call first to see if they have it. Also some junk dealers have this equipment, but again I would call them first.  This also may be a piece of space junk that burned up in the atmospere. Send a photo to NASA to rule it out. Most meteorites are magnetic, but some have only a small amount of metal so you can't rule out meteorite. Good luck.

It's classified as Putter and it's similar to lead, typically the best way to make sure it's heating to melt is lower than most metals. If it were larger you could actually bend it and shape it at reasonably low temps. Though it is not lead it's in the same category and has a slightly higher value by the way that it is very unique and easily managed. The only thing that I'm gonna say it could be is zinc however zinc is more brittle and is more a difference in melting temp. That's all I can say that I'm pretty sure of. I've been doing scrap metal recycling for 25 or more years and I have came across a few nice finds of the putter and it's worth something to get a idea for what it's worth exactly. Go to a scrap metal yard and see what it's they are going to say, advice from here is to not show you don't know what it is for sure they are more likely to get a better idea for you if you can tell them a little more about it as in the info I just gave you. People don't give a scrap metal recycling the credit they deserve, they are in the business and it's in the best interest to know what you have.
