South Battery Adam Mirror

By sdunn359, 10 October, 2016
Description

I would like to sell this beautiful, (if I am correct in my identification), Venetian style Mediterranean wall mirror. It is called a South Battery Adam Mirror produced by Friedman Brothers who have been in business for over 100 years reproducing some of the world’s most beautiful antiques. Which of course does not make this mirror an antique; it’s a very high-end quality reproduction. All Friedman Brothers reproductions are hand-made. I’ve done quite an extensive internet search and cannot find one quite like this one or as large. I’m not sure how old it is. I’m guessing it’s from the 80’s to 90’s or somewhere in there. It's a large rectangular mirror with multifaceted sections. One large section in the middle surrounded by 8 narrower sections held by a hand-carved antiqued gold frame. I’m not exactly sure what type of wood was used for the frame.  Inside each section, each individual mirror has beveling, so the glass used is of a thicker gauge than it would be than on a regular flat mirror.  Measures 51” long x 39” wide and probably weighs in at about 40 to 45 lbs. The back of the mirror has heavy duty metal closed-loop hooks, on both the width and the length so the mirror can be hung either horizontally or vertically on the wall. There is a very small oval identifying trademark on the paper backing, it reads historical foundation on top and on the bottom, Charleston SC reproduction’s. There’s also some large hand written numbers #6449B, (which is the style identifying number), and under that is written HC106, which I’m guessing might be the 106th mirror produced of that type. In that case, unless they just started making this style, would make it considerably older than I had originally thought. I did speak with a representative at Friedman brothers and tried to find out as much as I could about it, with not much luck. Almost every question I asked the man he seemed to not have the answer to. I forgot to ask him about the significance of the HC106  written on the back of it and he probably didn’t know about that either. One thing he did tell meis that Friedman Brothers makes thousands of mirrors every year. I looked on Ebay in the section that you can view mirrors that have been sold and the price they were sold for. I could not find one as big or as nice as this one. There were some more ornate antique ones, but I can’t use that as a fair comparison because this one is not an antique. If possible, any help anyone could give me as far as how old it is, the exact style and of course what a fair selling price would be. I don’t want to over price or under price it. I would  greatly appreciate it.
