Standard Furniture Co. Nashville TN dresser

By medodge, 17 August, 2010
Description

I purchased this dresser because of its scale and color and now I'm intriqued. There is a sticker on the back that says "Standard Furniture, Nashville TN". The dresser is solid wood, no particle/plywood and no veneers that I can detect. The drawers are dovetailed on all four corners. The mirror is pretty old and I would guess original. The claw feet are beautiful. The hardware looks like the original, no extra holes or new screws. The mirror frame is attached to the dresser with "primative" metal pegs. Any info you can give me would be great.

Thank you,
Laura

Re: Standard Furniture Co. Nashville TN dresser

Tour dresser is in the colonial revival style popular from the turn of the 19th century until the mid 1930's. Standard Furniture is still in business, they've been in operation since about 1912. At auction a comparable dresser would sell for under $300.00

Re: Standard Furniture Co. Nashville TN dresser

So the Standard Furniture Co. of Nashville TN is the same company as the Birmingham Alabama Standard Furniture? Why would it say Nashville? I did a little internet research and there was a Standard Furniture Co. in Nashville at the turn of the century that stemmed from a lumber business. They became Davis Cabinet Co.
