Re: Stone Die, crown stamp

Hi, Mbordoni: I have had a couple of these over the years. It is a single die, as you already guessed, for various "lotto" type games where they needed more than the six numbers of a normal die. The crown stamp stands for the number 1, so it really goes 1-32. I have another version of this with letters of the alphabet instead of numbers. Not sure what that's all about. Yours is definitely ivory, not stone. It is also most definitely English, made in England. (The word "six" carved IN ENGLISH next to the numeral 6 is one giveaway here. There's probably a word "nine" next to the 9, yes? To keep the numerals from being read upside-down. Probably at least 150 - 200 years old, maybe even older.

I collect all sorts of antique dice. I have bought and sold a few of these over the years for around $100 - 200 or so. Seems kinda cheap to me, but they tend to be inexpensive because so few people know what they are, so there are not a lot of collectors for them. However, if you ever do decide to sell it, I would be one buyer you could contact. I'm in the Denver area, (303) 650-6204.

Or, if you have an interest in antique dice or gaming pieces, you could call or e-mail me just to talk about them. I always enjoy meeting people with this obscure interest.

Best Regards, livinginthepast-tom
