straight razor set

By heimdall, 11 May, 2012
Description

I found this set in my father's belongings after he passed. It is a set of 4 straight razors made by A. Kastor & Bros. which are contained in a fitted case. The case or box appears to be synthetic leather over cardboard and is held closed by 2 snaps. The inside of the lid has a raised panel of purple material and is embossed "A.K.&B. OUR BEST MAKE FULLY WARRENTED". The razors are held in a fitted purple cloth section with grooves for the handles and a numbered panel on the left with the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 corresponding to the razors positions.

Each razor measures 6 1/4" long closed. The cutting portion of the blades measure 3" by 3/4". The handles appear to be plastic and are black in color. The shaft portion of the blades have a small decorative engraving and the letters "O", "B", and "M" in individual diamonds above the name A.KASTOR & BROS with GERMANY engraved underneath that. The spine of each blade is engraved with the number 1, 2, 3, and 4 within a small depression.

As for condition; the case shows very minimal wear on a few of the edges. The interior of the case is as new. The razors are in excellent condition; the plastic has no cracks or marks of any kind. The metal surfaces are free of any rust, tarnish, or discoloration.
